Привредна развијеност, уз ниво образовања становништва, даје јасан увид у степен развијености читавог једног друштва. У привред- ном погледу, османско наслеђе Јужне Србије било је сиромашно, тако да се истраживањем о променама привредних прилика и развоју привреде у првих десет година постојања Краљевине СХС/Југославије, може стећи увид у то у којој мери је дошло до напретка ове основне делатности. Са друге стране, степен привредне развијености Косова и Метохије као дела Јужне Србије, дефинише економски положај ових области у једном делу Краљевине СХС, а тиме посредно и у читавој држави. У раду је, на основу архивске грађе и релевантне литературе, описано стање у коме се налазила привреда на Косову и Метохији, чиме се стиче јасан положај овог дела државе у економском погледу.

Opis (eng)

The initial economic foundations of South Serbia were very modest compared to pre-Cuman Serbia, and even more so far the northwestern areas of the Kingdom of SHS. In relation to the eastern part of this area, Kosovo and Metohija were even more backward and during the ten years after the Great War there were only a few large industrial enterprises in their area. Except for the coal mines Kosovo A. D, all other enterprises were modest in size, and more then 95% of population was engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. Wheat was the dominant crop which was of excellent quality in several locations, but exports from this area were reduced by various machinations of traders. Among the vegetable crops, beans bounced back, while walnuts in Kačanik County were of excelent quality. Banking was at a modest level and could not signaficantly influence the ceonomic development of Kosovo and Metohia. Kosovo-metohia banks performed a significant part of their business in Skopje, which as the administrative center of the entire area was gaininf importance evry day. Although the number of companies encreased more than four times in industrial terms, that growth was insufficient for South Serbia, and thus Kosovo and Metohija, to experience an economic transformation.
