In the very city >>tissue<< of Belgrade in Košutnjak and on Topčidersko brdo (»court forests«) a more or less natural forest vegetation is preserved. Beside numerous and varied functions which this natural greenery offers in the very urban milieu, these forest complexes point to a special plant-geographic interestingness of central parts of the area of Belgrade - its vegetational two-zo- rality. One forest zone (Quercion frainetto Ht. 54) becomes replaced by a little more humid forest- steppe zone (Aceri tatarici-Querrion Zol. et Jack. 57) with a set of specifities, which are characteristic for vegetation of the southern rim of Pannonian depression. Having in mind the importance of these forests and their manifold useful functions, as well as their valorizational value for central parts of the city of Belgrade in potential respect, the attempt was made to present for the first time these plant rommunities, including all necessary documentation and mapping, As a result of this investigation 7 forest plant communities of association rank were selected and mapped, as well as a few lower syntaxons, mainly of subassociation rank.
