It was found out that the pathogenic fungs Armillaris mellea (V a h 1.) Q u e 1. caused dying of trees of Pinus strobus in the reconstructed degraded association of Quercetum Fernetto-cerris subas. aculeatetosum, and the fastgrowing conifers: Pinus strobus, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Larix europea and Pinus nigra. Conditions of appearance of this terrible disease of the root system and the mechanism of infection were investigated, and Pinus strobus was classed as the most sensitive coniferous species in relation with this pathogenic fungus. Results of investigation show that there is a real danger of spreading of the pathogenic Armillaria mellea if fastgrowing conifers are introduced into degraded broadleaved woods. So, while reconstructing these woods into a higher silvicultural compositions, beside other things, it is necessary to pay attention to the presence of A. mellea as a latent danger which may cause dying out of newly-introduced sensitive species of trees, i. e. Pinus strobus in this case. A survey of the most important manifestations of the disease has been given so that it may be quickly discovered and the necessary measures undertaken.
