The examinations of development possibility of microorganisms antagonists in the peat, observation of their population and activity was performed in laboratory conditions. The effectiveness of so refined peat in the protection of saplings from lodging in the first stage of development of seedlings of pine species was checked in field trials. The obtained results of these investigations show: - That the peat is a very favourable environment for the development of actinomyces antagonists in which they massively multiply and retain their activity. - In laboratory conditions the actinomyces reach in the peat the maximum number after 10 days incubation, when the highest activity has been made evident, but considerably higher number of actinomyces has been found in sterilized peat. - In field conditions, the highest effect in plant protection from diseases has showed the unsterilized refined peat. According to all evidences in the unsterilized peat it is created a positive interrelationship of active microorganisms and the other microflora, which causes its more intensive activity. Therefore the refined unsterilized peat may be recommended as a method of utilization of microorganisms-antagonists in the biologic control.
