SELEKCIJA APANTELES SOLITARIUS RATZEBURG (HYMENOPTERA, BRACONIDAE) NA PLODNOST
SELECTION OF Apanteles solitarius Ratzeburg (Hymenoptera, Braconidae) ON THE BASIS OF FERTlLITY
Minić, Danica
Selection of Apanteles solitarius on the basis of fertility has extended over 10 generations. In each generation 10 females were checked. The gypsy moth caterpillars were exposed to parasites in Petri-dishes and bottles. The parasite cocoons immediately after formation were put in test-tubes and stored at the temperature of 2-5 C to the right time of development of caterptiollars. All dead caterpillars were dissected in order to establish the exact number of eggs, laid by each female. In each generation posterity of four the most fertile female were selected for further investigation. The analysis of the obtained results shows that maximal number of eggs, laid by one female in the first generation was 78, while in the tenth generation this number went up to 484 eggs. By increasing fertillity of females of A. solitarius it is possible to rear in the laboratory a large number of cocoons which will be used in biological control of gypsy moth.
