Opis (eng)

During three year period of investigations on rooting cuttings of hazel (Corylus avellana L.), two types of cuttings were used: a. hardwood cuttings - winter and, b. green cuttings - summer. Time of taking cuttings, soil mixtures, root promoting hormones, and type, namely quality of cuttings, were investigated when hardwood cuttings were in question. Derived data pointed out that the best time for taking cuttings was January and the first of February - until the beginning of flowering. Soil mixture, made of peat and sand (1:1 by volume) was better than sand or peat alone. Root promoting hormones- Seradix 3 (IBA) and Murphy (NAA) increased number of rooted cuttings. Combining the most favourable conditions attained percentage of rooting was 70% and 78%. Mist propagation was used for rooting of green-summer cuttings. Time of taking cuttings, different soil mixtures, root promoting hormones and quality of cuttings were tested. So far we have found that mixture of peat and sand was the best for rooting of top cuttings, treated with Murphy rooting hormone. Treating cuttings on such a manner attained rooting was up to 78-91%. Survival of rooted winter cuttings is not satisfactory, it is between 50 and 75%. Before this problem is solved, rooting of green cuttings can be recommended for mass propagation of hazel.
