Критичка слика Србије коју у свом роману Петља даје Дејан Алексић потпуна је, доследна и језгровита, а утемељена на оцртавању бинарних опозиција и логике искључи- вања другог, другачијег, различитог, те на препознавању стереотипа који функционишу у друштвеном животу и пресудно утичу на свакодневно насиље. Тумачење романа овде је ослоњено на теорије идентитета и увиде које нам је донео постструктурализам. У роману заогрнутом у псеудодетективски жанр Алексић разлистава планове угрожавања другог, другости, различитости (не занемарујући ни аутодеструкцију и унутрашњег другог) при- сутне у српском друштву.

When the author places his protagonist in a Greek prison for 48 hours for her to experience a place of freedom, within which she surrenders to introspection, retrospection, and recapitulation, then that in itself creates the framework for an all-encompassing critique of Serbian society from the nineties on to current times. In the novel Petlja, Dejan Aleksić uses characterization and intertextuality to paint a picture of Serbia from the nineties on, and illuminates the consequences of a past that, just like the more distant past in Serbia, never ends. Instead, the past unrelentingly shapes worldviews, personalities, and life’s rather limiting fron- tier. In this concisely written novel, cloaked in a pseudo-detective genre, Aleksić leafs through the plans for compromising the other, otherness, and any sort of diversity (without neglecting self-destruction and one’s inner other either) existing in the Serbian society, in which the etalon of value itself has been lost, the meas- ure against which compromises, social anomalies, and wrongdoings are valued.
