Abstract. While the world public is focused on determining the dimensions of Russian state power in contemporary relations, this paper draws attention to soft power, which, as defined by the creators of the term, we mainly use for all those situations when there is no mention of military power as a key aspect of hard power. For this purpose, the paper uses the theoretical explanations of Joseph S. Nye, about the three pillars of soft power, with reference to the first one (culture), and the novel Master and Margarita by M. A. Bulgakov is here taken as a case study. The aim of the paper is to show that the penetration of Russian culture towards the West is a form of soft power that was achieved passively, that this form of power was produced and entered the realm of global popular culture without the efforts of the state to promote and establish it.

Аннотация. В то время как мировая общественность сосредоточена на определении размеров российской государственной силы в современных отношениях, в этой статье внимание обращается на мягкую силу, которую, по определению создателей термина, мы в основном используем для всех тех ситуаций, когда мы не говорим о военной силе как о ключевом аспекте жесткой силы. С этой целью статья обращается к теоретическим объяснениям о трех столпах мягкой силы, со ссылкой на первый (культура), а в качестве примера взят роман «Мастер и Маргарита» М. А. Булгакова. Цель статьи - показать, что проникновение русской культуры на Запад — это форма мягкой силы, достигнутая пассивно, что эта форма силы была произведена и вошла в сферу глобальной массовой культуры без усилий государства по ее продвижению и установлению.
