Opis (eng)

Abstract: In this paper, the author discusses the crime of multiple homocide and public’s perception by analyzing mass murder as one of the most serious crimes against life and body. The issue of prevention is not only a matter of criminal law, but also applies to the media that report on crimes. Mass killings are not a new crime, and as such they are criminalized in the Crim-inal Code, but in relation to reporting on them, new, preventive forms of work should be undertaken. In reporting on mass killings, written and elec-tronic social media should respect a code of ethics that would oblige them to inform the general public about the injured and endangered right to life of individuals. By avoiding the incitement of Amok violence or Werther’s syndrome, and by supporting positive examples as prevention, the possibil-ity of further mass murder and violence would be minimized. Only through reporting in accordance with professional standards and ethical rules can adverse effects be avoided.
