Human rights are innate rights in which, under equal conditions, all human beings have the right to enjoy. The enjoyment of these rights is not the object of the will of any state or organ of that State. It is believed that all living things are born free and live freely. Therefore, the individual is born as a free individual, lives in his freedom, and this freedom, except in specially stipulated conditions by legal acts, cannot be taken away from him by any one. What was the state of human rights, the application of human rights and their protection in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija through time, with special reference to the period of the 20th century, will be the subject of interest of this paper. Also, the paper will give an overview of the relations of different peoples and nationalities that lived in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the attitude towards the Serb community after the establishment of the protectorate of the international community.

Људска права су урођена права у којима под једнаким условима имају право да уживају сва људска бића. Уживање у овим правима није предмет воље нити једне државе нити органа те државе. Сматра се да се сва жива бића рађају слободна и живе слободно. Дакле, појединац се рађа као слободна јединка, живи у својој слободи и ту слободу му, осим у посебно предвиђеним условима законским актима, не може нико одузети. Какво је било стање људских права, примене људских права и њихове заштите на простору Косова и Метохије кроз време, са нарочитим освр- том на период XX века, биће предмет интересовања овог рада. Такође, у раду ће се дати приказ односа различитих народа и народности који су живели на простору Косова и Метохије, као и однос према српској заједници након успостављања протектората међународне заједнице.
