Opis (srp)

Opis (eng)

The position of the press in the territory of the Morava Banovina was regulated, as in the rest of the country, by the Press Law. This law provided for press censorship, including the banning of newspapers that criticized govern- ment policy or wrote negatively about the ruler. The publication of any materials containing communist propaganda was strictly prohibited. Newspapers within the Morava Banovina were closely monitored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Central Press Bureau of the Ministerial Council (CPB). CPB corre- spondents regularly submitted reports on the content of the Banovina press, including detailed analyses of published articles. The press was required to maintain a pro-regime stance and to publish affirmative articles about the current government. Otherwise, a newspaper could be shut down after three consecutive bans. The Press Law allowed for the suppression or permanent closure of “unsuitable” publications, and there were cases where editors were arrested. Some newspapers, despite adhering to the regime’s policy, ceased publication after a short time due to financial difficulties, editorial mismanagement, poor choice of topics, or lack of reader interest.
