This paper explores the persecution of the Serbian population in the Kosovo Vilayet under Ottoman rule in 1912, focusing specifically on reports published by the Serbian daily newspaper Politika. The Ottoman administration during the late 19th and early 20th centuries systematically tolerated or enabled violence against Serbs, contribut- ing to mass migrations and widespread insecurity. The year 1912, marked by internal instability in the Ottoman Empire and the Albanian uprising, witnessed a dramatic increase in attacks on Serbs.The study analyzes Politika’s news reports from January to September 1912, just before the outbreak of the First Balkan War. It documents 79 criminal acts, including murders, looting, abductions, and assaults committed mostly by Albanian groups and Ottoman forces. While these articles lack precise source references and should be ap- proached with critical caution, they nonetheless offer insight into the atmosphere of fear and state neglect endured by the Serbian population. The findings underline the role of the press in shaping domestic and international awareness of the situation in the Ottoman-controlled Balkans. Additionally, this paper emphasizes the importance of cross-examining journalistic accounts with official dip- lomatic correspondence for a more accurate historical assessment.

Османлијску владавину над просторима Косова и Ме- тохије и Старе Србије у 19. и почетком 20. века карактерисало је велико насиље над православним српским становништвом, које је неретко остајало некажњавано. То је доводило до великих миграција, које се процењују на неколико стотина хиљада људи у периоду од 1876. до 1912. године. Турбулентна 1912. година донела је велику нестабилност младотурске владе и велики устанак Арбанаса, да би у октобру Црна Гора, Србија, Бу- гарска и Грчка кренуле у рат против Османлијске империје и истерале је са Балкана. До тада, терор над Србима у Косовском вилајету био је веома распрострањен. Тема рада биће сведочења и извештаји дневног листа Политика о злочинима над Србима у Косовском вилајету током 1912. године, све до почетка Првог балканског рата, у којем је Србија успела да ослободи Рашку област, Косово и Метохију и Македонију.
