All analyses of the past works of recultivation by afforestation in Kolubara coal basin have shown that the formed substratum varies very much in physical qualities, from light sandy soils to heavy clayey soils, which are mosaically distributed. The analysis of development of a greater number of tree species in the established plantations has shown that among coniferous species good success have demonstrated: Pinus nigra, Pinus silvestris, Larix europea and Pinus strobus, and of broadleaved species: Acer pseudoplatanus, Tilia tomentosa, Quercus rubra, Quercus pedunculata and Alnus glutinosa.
