On the permanent test plots in Šumadija (Lipovica, Avala, Zovljak, Ralja, Desimirovac and Rogot) from artificial niches of sackcloth, which were placed on oak trees at breast height the gypsy moth caterpillars were collected and then laboratory reared and analyzed. The collecting of caterpillars was done once a week during the whole development of this instar in the nature. The investigation period lasted five years, from 1981. to 1985. On the basis of the number of collected caterpillars the population density of the host was established (Table 1) and on the basis of laboratory reared parasites the quantitative and qualitive presence of the parasites (Table 2, Graphs 1-6). The population level of the pest moved from low to medium and the total parasitism from 4.2% to 32.1%. The degree of parasitism was most often proportional to the population density of the host, although there were some interesting exceptions.
