The total basal area per ha, determined by Bitterlich's method (germ.: Winkelzahlprobe) may be used as the basis for selection stand inventory. The condition for this is the obtaining of the sample of diameter structure on the some plots. The number of trees per ha by diameter classes is determined when the number of trees of the diameter structure sample is multiplied by calculation factor (q), representing the ratio between the basal area per ha, estimated_ on the basis of relascopic factor and the total basal area of trees from the diameter structure sample.
