In this resarch the analysis of germination was made, as well as dynamics of sapling development, influence of NPK fertilizers and of sowing density on the quality of silver basswood saplings. The results have shown that the germination period lasts the whole 5 week but also that the period of the most suitable time for fertilization is very short, lasting only 3 weeks from the beginning of germination. Only twice occurring fertilization has shown a higher increment of the overground part of the plants, as well as of the root system and of the plant diameter at root collar. It was also established that the plant growth, both over ground and underground, is very much influenced by sowing density, only the diameters at root collar are lagging behind. The conclusion is that it should be possible to increase the quality of silver basswood saplings in the first year of growth by moderate fertilization and sowing density.
