ISTRAŽIVANJE ŠTETNOSTI VELIKE HRASTOVE STRIŽIBUBE (CERAMBYX CERDO L.) SA OSVRTOM NA MOGUĆNOST SUZBIJANJA
INVESTIGATIONS OF THE HARMFULNESS OF CERAMBYX CERDO L., WITH RESPECT TO THE POSSIBILITY OF SUPPRESSION
Marković, Radovan
On the basis of investigations, carried out during the period from 1961 to 1981 the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. C. cerdo is a very significant prime pest of oak forests. Attack by C. cerdo was not found in Srem on the trees with mean dbh of 35 cm. On the trees of dbh above this diameter, harmfulness of C. cerdo became evident. Trees in mature stands with dbh above 100 cm, are not more attractive to further attacks by C. cerdo. It is most probable that vitality of these trees is below the limit where C. cerdo can develop as prime pest. 2. It is estimated that the usefulness of wood decreased up to 6 times by direct deterioration of wood by making channels by C. cerdo larvae. 3. Through the entrance and emergance openings of C. cerdo in wood penetrate many fungi, which further deteriorate wood of standing trees. 4. Prevention of attacks by C. cerdo by treating trees with insecticide Xylolin is successful, however, treatment of larger forest areas is unpractical. Treatment is economically justified only if it is done on trees of large value in small but valuable stands. It is most probable that success can be attained by investigation and application of sex pheromone of C. cerdo.
