On a sample of 720 cones, collected on 39 trees in 22-year old eastern white pine plantations, grown on four different localities of Podrinjsko-Kolubarski region in Serbia the analysis was made of the source of variability of the parameters of cone size and seed yield. The length, the width and the weight of cones are very variable parameters. Even higher variability was expressed in the total seed yield and full seed yield per cone. The analyzed sources of variability such as: localities, mother trees and cones on the same tree express a different influence on corresponding characteristics. So the cone length, width and weight were less influenced by localities than by mother trees in the sample. On the contrary both seed yield parameters were more dependent on localities and less on mother trees. The cone length and wtidth as well as seed yield parameters are more variable inside one tree than between the trees, while by cone weight it was opposit. All studied parameters are under gene control which rate of heritability (calculated on the balsis of the formula: S 2B /S2 +s B = h2) was 0,50 for the cone length, 0,45 for the cone width, 0,56 for the cone weight, 0,49 for the total seed yield per cone and 0,43 for the full seed yield per cone.
