The influence of a high thining cut on the current diameter increment was studied on two plots - expenimental and controlled. One year after thining it was established that there was a big increase of diameter increment on the experimental plot, when compared with the controlled one. The conclusion is that beech belongs to the species which react very fast to the changes of the environmental conditions.
