The soils of Suvobor, one of expressively unwooded area, were studied. Much greater part of the massif is occupied by ultrabasic rocks rthan by rocks of volcanogenic-sedimentary formation. On ultrabasic rocks are dominant soils of A-C stage. The occurence of pseudoglay was not registered. The presence of certain soils on ultrabasic rocks was conditioned mainly by the relief and much less bo the petrographic modification of the mother rock, with the exception of silificated serpentines. On the rocks of volcanogenic-sedimentary formation there appears most often distric cambisol, while on cretaceous flish both, calcocambisol and distric cambisol. On Miocene sedimentary rocks there appear only vertisols. The structure of the soil on barren, lands shows high degree of degradation of pedo-ecological conditions, in the first place on ultrabasic rocks. Mostly present are the inicial and younger serpentine soils - litosol and eutric rankers (64%), which reforestation is the most difficult. The percentage of deeper serpentine eutric cambisols and luvisols, which are, more suitable for reforestation, is less than 10%. Ecological value of all studied soils is relatively low and main- ly conditioned by the stage of development and by the specificity of chemical composition of mother rock.
