This paper presents a concept and methodics of multidisciplinary research of barren regions (lands) in Serbia. Due to spatially, ecologically and economically non-defined and unmapped barren regions which are to be afforested, adequate planning of work in this area is possible. F AO classification, with certain modifications, is used in estimation productional and applicable value of barren tracts. In order to define barren tracts and determine their purpose, ecological, socio-demographic, economical and financial analysis is being carried out. A concept of creating an informative system of barren tracts in Serbia is given. Difficulties in organization, men-power and technology are pointed out, but it is believed that all of these will shortly be successfully overcome.

U ovom radu iznet je koncept i metodika multidisciplinarnog istraživanja goleti (zemljišnog prostora) u Srbiji. Zbog prostorno, ekološki i ekonomskih nedefinisanih i nekartiranih goleti za pošumljavanje nije moguće adekvatno planirati radove u ovoj oblasti. Za procenu proizvodne i upotrebne vrednosti goleti primenjena je FAO klasifikacija, s izvesnim modifikacijama. U cilju definisanja goleti i određivanja njihove namene, provodi se ekološka, socio-demografska, ekonomska i finansijska analiza. Iznet je koncept izgradnje informacionog sistema o goletima Srbije. Istaknute su i teškoće organizacione, kadrovske i tehničke prirode, za koje se veruje da će biti uspešno prevaziđene.
