Summary: Industrialization, the accelerated development of cities, and traffic during the 20th century led to an increase in the negative impact on the environment, which, among other things, is manifested through increasing air pollution on a global level. In order to prevent further degradation of the air and in attempting to eliminate damage to it, the European Union adopts a series of legal acts in this field. The paper will present the legal system of air protection within the European Union, after which special attention will be dedicated to the practice of the European Court of Justice. The aim of the work is to provide a summary of the most important legal regulations in the field of air protection within the legal system of the European Union, as well as an evaluation of the success of the implementation of the adopted regulations by the member states.
Sažetak: Industrijalizacija, ubrzan razvoj gradova i saobraćaja tokom 20. veka doveli su do povećanja negativnog uticaja na životnu sredinu, što se između ostalog manifestuje kroz sve veću zagađenost vazduha na globalnom nivou. U cilju sprečavanja dalje degradacije vazduha i pokušaju otklanjanja štetnih posledica po isti, Evropska unija donosi niz pravnih akata na ovom polju. U radu će biti prikazan pravni sistem zaštite vazduha u okviru Evropske unije, nakon čega će posebna pažnja biti posvećena praksi Evropskog suda pravde. Cilj rada je pružanje rezimea najznačajnije pravne regulative na polju zaštite vazduha u okviru pravnog sistema Evropske unije, kao i evaluacija uspešnosti primene usvojenih propisa od strane pojedinih država članica.
