Pandemije tokom ljudske istorije - od “Justinijanove kuge” do Covida 19
Pandemics during human history - from Justinian plague to Covid 19
Timor mortis conturbat me, toliko zastupljena latinska sentenca u srednjevekovnoj engleskoj i škotskoj poeziji, ustalio se u svesti svakog čoveka i tu i dalje egizistira.
Summary: The impact of infectious diseases on the course of human history, society, and ultimately law is great and incalculable. The fear of the extinction of the human species has been present for centuries, and the fear of death is one of the greatest human fears. Timor mortis conturbat me, such a common Latin sentence in medieval English and Scottish poetry, has become established in the consciousness of every human being and still exists there. From Homer’s Iliad, which mentions the plague that decimated the Greek army, through two pandemics of the bubonic plague, the first in the 6th century, better known as Justinian’s plague, which killed between 30 and 50 million people, half the world’s population, and the second in the 14th century. better known as the Black Death, which took over 75 million lives, we see that epidemics of deadly diseases are a regular occurrence in human society that occurs at irregular intervals and takes a large number of lives. Today we are witnessing a new epidemic of world proportions - Covid 19, which has its own specifics, different from previous pandemics. The aim of this paper is to chronologically present the greatest pandemics during recent history and to point out their repercussions on human society.
