Hygienic opportunities in the Vučitrn region and work on improving drinking water supply 1930-1941

Summary: Compared to other regions of the Moravian Banovina, Vučitrn was, first of all, an underdeveloped area in terms of economy and culture. The efforts of the local, as well as the banovin authorities, to modernize were met with misunderstanding by the population, which, accustomed to established customs for generations, resisted any novelties. In the field of health education, the Institute of Hygiene from Niš was engaged, which covered the entire territory of the Moravian Banovina. Given the financial difficulties, as well as the insufficient health awareness of the population, the Institute of Hygiene tried to increase its activities in the region of Vučitrn. The construction of wells and public fountains provided, one could say, the basic food for life, drinking water. The efforts invested in these tasks yielded results, so that at the end of the thirties, only six villages lacked quality drinking water, and for the town of Vučitrn itself, it was planned to use the nearby river for a working and safe water supply.
Апстракт: Вучитрнски срез, тридесетих година XX века, као део Моравске бановине, представљао је неразвијено подручје у економском погледу, што је за собом повлачило и низак ниво опште културе. Напори локалних, али и бановинских власти за модернизацијом, наилазили су на неразумевање становништва, које се, генерацијски навикнуто на устаљене обичаје, одупирало било каквим новитетима. Акценат у раду стављен је на изградњу бунара са пијаћом водом, што, само по себи непредставља капитални пројекат. Намера је, међутим, да се, кроз локалне радове, прикажу напори на уређењу живота у неразвијеним срединама, као и на еманципацији становништва. Рад је написан на основу грађе фонда Завода за јавно здравље у Нишу (Хигијенског завода), надлежног за подручје читаве Моравске бановине.
