Calculation of calcium oxide consumption in the mine wastewater treatment from inactive open pits of the copper mine
Abstract: This paper presents the calculation of required amount of calcium oxide (CaO) for neutralization the mine water, accumulated in the abandoned open pits of the copper mine. This water represents a resource that can be reused in the mining activities after treatment. Calculation of calcium hydroxide consumption on a daily basis for converting the metal ions (Fe, Cu and Zn), dissolved in mine water into an insoluble hydroxide form and increasing the pH value, is given in relation to their flow and mass of CaO needed to neutralize 1 m3 of water.
