Opis (eng)

Summary: Although it is not a primary source, the press, with a critical approach, supplements and sharpens the picture of the topic being researched. Its role of a ”spice” becomes especially pronounced in homeland topics or some other topics from the field of social history. The press offers a lively and colourful presentation and, with the reader’s imagination, it becomes a specific emotional time-machine, whose characteristic magnetism attracts the researcher to show deeper devotion to their research. That is exactly how the undoubtedly significant, now already the four volume book by Slavoljub Maržik was created; its approach and model inspired us to offer a modest contribution to the re construction of the historical picture of Karanovac, i.e. Kraljevo by investigating the writings about the mentioned settlement in Prosvetni glasnik in the period from 1880 to 1915. Prosvetni glasnik was intended for providing important official news from the then Ministry of Education and Church Affairs. It published laws and orders, rules and programmes of the relevant ministry, announcements of general value, school and literary reports from the fields of lower and higher levels of school. The pages of this paper also provided the public with the reports of school supervisors and principals, as well as decisions on appointments, rewards, medals, transfers and dismissals of professors, trainee professors, lecturers and teachers of the Great School, secondary and primary schools. Reports or excerpts from the protocols of the work of literary and learned societies were also published. Prosvetni glasnik also contained reviews of school and scientific books and art works intended for public teaching, as well as, if possible, scientific articles and treatises on the situation and needs of schools and education in general. Prosvetni glasnik was actually an official gazette of the General Education Council. It published the minutes from the meetings of the General Education Council, too. The paper was envisaged as an important means that would serve educational purposes and further training of educational workers. A large portion of its contents referred to the improvement and modernisation of teaching practice. Frequently published book and other reviews certainly aimed at increasing the level of knowledge of educational workers and encouraging their ambitions and success. The pages of Prosvetni glasnik present various data that could serve, before all, as a supplement to primary sources regarding more detailed and more picturesque illustration of the life and spirit of Karanovac/Kraljevo. The undoubtedly most precious pieces of information about this place published in Prosvetni glasnik relate to schools, and interesting descriptions of excursions add to the picture and impressions of a very nice and friendly small town.
