Abstract: The need for safety and security (security, stability) in the hierarchy of human needs take second place, and are located just behind the physiological needs (food, water, air, flat). So, security is one of the basic human needs, with which inseparably going and improving the value of the individual, the nation (collective), and therefore the global affirmation of the values that must be freely develop, demonstrate and promote. Unfortunately crime rates globally indicate large scale uncertainties that one feels in the modern world. Criminal acts affect not only the victims and their loved ones. It creates fee- lings of fear, anguish, insecurity and uncertainty, and thus affects the entire society. As these threats are increasingly prominent, so the reactions to them more complex. Crime prevention through environmental design is the concept of practical philosophy to control crime, which is trying to establish itself and finds its full implementation.

Сажетак: Потребе за безбедношћу и сигурношћу (заштита, стабилност) у хије- рархији људских потреба заузимају другу позицију, и налазе се одмах иза физиолошких потреба (храна, вода, ваздух, стан). Дакле, безбедност је једна од основних људских потреба, уз коју неодвојиво иде и унапређење вредности појединца, нације (коле- ктива), а самим тим и афирмација глобалних вредности које морају да се несметано развијају, испољавају и унапређују. Нажалост стопе криминалитета на глобалном нивоу указују на велике размере несигурности које човек осећа у савременом свету. Кривична дела не погађају искључиво жртве и њихове ближње. Она стварају осећаје страха, стрепње, несигурности и неизвесности, а самим тим погађају и целокупно друштво. Како су ове претње све израженије, тако су и реакције на њих све сложеније. Превенција криминалитета кроз дизајн околине је концепт практичне филозофије за контролу криминала, који покушава да се афирмише и нађе своју пуну примену.
