Abstract. The paper discusses the situation in the Bitola vilayet, as an integral part of the Ottoman Empire from the beginning of the 20th century, and the actions of Alexander Arkadyevich Rostkovsky, the Russian consul in Bitola. That period was marked by terrible atrocities against the Christian population, various riots and movements, which contributed to an even greater weakening of the Ottoman Empire. The Russian consul testified in his reports about the difficult situation. His work and involvement in the protection of Serbian and Slavic population in the Bitola vilajet caused discontent among the Mohammedans, which resulted in his murder. He was remembered by the Serbian people as a protector.

Аннотация. В статье рассматривается ситуация в вилайете Битола, как составной части Османской империи с начала ХХ века и деятельность российского консула в Битоле Александра Аркадьевича Ростковского. Тот период был отмечен страшными злодеяниями против христианского населения, различными мятежами и движениями, что способствовало еще большему ослаблению Османской империи. Российский консул в своих донесениях свидетельствовал о сложной ситуации. Его деятельность и участие в защите сербского и славянского населения в вилайете Битола вызвали недовольство среди магометан, что привело к его убийству. Он запомнился сербскому народу как защитник.
