The mining science has been invisible to the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts since its establishment in 1887, the time of Ljubomir Klerić, mining engineer, one of the 14 founders of the Serbian Royal Academy of Sciences (now SASA), the founder of the School of Mechanics and the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade. So far, none of the dozen proposed mining experts has been honored to be a member of SASA.
