"Natural conditions in the Danube river basin, from the confluence of the Great Morava river to the confluence of Timok river, show a susceptibility for the occurrence of torrential floods and a high vulnerability to state roads of the first and second category. In order to analyze the risk of roads from torrential floods in the analyzed sector, the calculation using the Flash Flood Potential Index (FFPI) method was applied beside the fieldwork. The obtained results showed that 39.36% of the research area was very susceptible to torrents. The vulnerability of roads at a total of 608 locations where there is a crossroads with torrents has been determined. Very high vulnerability of road infrastructure was found at 41 locations (6.74%), high at 424 (69.74%), medium at 133 (21.88%), and low vulnerability at 10 locations (1.64%). Accordingly, 76.48% of sites belong to high and very high risk classes. The obtained results showed that it was necessary to start works on the protection of road infrastructure. The most adequate defense against torrential floods is prevention, which consists in integral watershed management of torrential basins in order to reduce erosion processes to tolerant limits. "
