Opis (eng)

Abstract: This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of polluted irrigation water on total microbial count and Azotobacter cell numbers in an alluvial soil and a vertisol under red clover. A greenhouse pot experiment in five replications on the two soils was laid out at the Faculty of Agronomy, Čačak. Two soil treatments were used: soil irrigation with river water sampled 200 m downstream of the main industrial and municipal wastewater collector in the Town of Čačak, and clean water provided through the public supply system. During the growing season, total microbial count and Azotobacter cell numbers increased in both soils, most notably in the alluvial soil. The soil biogenic potential, expressed through total microbial count and Azotobacter numbers, was somewhat lower in soils treated with polluted water. At the end of the growing season, there was a decrease in the depressing effect of polluted water, particularly for Azotobacter.
