The development of the metropolitan institution according to the canons of the Church shows a mutual ecklicologic-canonical relationship based on the principle of the conciliarity, which associates the conciliar church organization with the secret of the Holy Trinity, the conciliar activity and the organization of the Church. The significance of the metropolitan structure of the Church is formulated by the canons of the local and the ecumenical councils, which regulate the supervision of bishops in the metropolitan area by the bishop, who occupied the first cathedral among them with the title of a metropolitan or bishop of the metropolitan, according to the political name of the capital (μητροπόλις), where the title of the bishop of the city was adapted to the political organization of the Empire.

Апстракт: Развој митрополитске установе кроз однос епископа главног града – митрополита и устројство њихове јерархијске надлежности у склопу Саборне црквне организације биће тема рада. Хронологијом успостављања митроплитске организације у правилима Помесних и Васељенских сабора указаће се на значај ове установе у црквеном устројству.
