Abstract: The role of the Chilandar monastery in key moments for the Serbian state portrays the coupling of the world and the spiritual authorities, their mutual « help in general affairs, both for the state and for the Church. The Mount Athos did not become the site of only spir¬itual practices, but also a field of political activity, and its national monasteries representative offices in the Byzantine state, where the Chilandar monks directly or indirectly exercised great influence in the field of delicate diplomatic missions.
