Opis (eng)

The author of the paper presents part of the results of his field research of White Shrove customary and ritual practicies among Serbs in Šar Mountains Parish Sirinić, an area located on the border of Kosovo and Metohija with North Macedonia. The focus of the paper is on folklore elements within the mentioned practices, with the children as the main participants, that is which are intended for the youngest part of the population of the researched Serbian community. The attention in the paper is dedicated to the segment of the White Shrove celebration that takes place in the family home, with the gathering of household members at the festive dinner as the most important element, which includes amkanje, that is the game of ”catching“ boiled eggs, with the children in the role of the main participants of this activity. Taking into account the origin of the practice of amkanje, which is, according to some interpretations, connected to religious-mythological representations of the egg as the source of life, according to what the use of boiled eggs in the context of the celebration of White Shrove can be understood as a symbol of resurrection and rebirth, the aim of the paper is to contribute to the understanding of the ritual role of amkanje as part of the traditional culture of the Sirinić Serbs. Also, the goal of the paper is to attempt to understand the significance of mentioned practice as a factor in the process of socialization of the youngest generations of the researched Serbian community, which has been preserved to this day through transmission from generation to generation. The research procedure applied to achieve the stated goal is based on the use of qualitative methods, primarily observation and conducting interviews with interlocutors, while the results presented in the paper were obtained on the basis of field research conducted on several occasions in Sirinić from 2018 to 2024.
